Boppin’ Babies has been named a finalist in the prestigious What’s On 4 2016 Junior Awards in the Best National Pre-schooler Activity 2-5 years category.
The What’s On awards program is one of a kind in Australia and celebrates the best activities for children from around Australia as nominated and voted for by the experts – parents and parents-to-be.
This year the awards received over 1,000 nominations and so to reach the finalist stage is a great achievement for Boppin’ Babies. The winners will be announced at a live event on the Gold Coast on the 4th of June 2016.
Boppin’ Babies is a music early learning program for babies to children under five, designed with a music therapy focus to enhance early childhood development, help parents use music in the home and promote parent-child bonding.
All music is played live and with the children singing, moving to music, making music with shakers, drums and bells, and improvising musical play.
Founder Vicky Abad said she started the business nearly 10 years ago when her daughter was a baby so that she could attend music with her father
“I wanted to offer something truly unique for children’s music groups where we immerse children in a beautiful high quality live musical environment where they ‘learn’ about music by experiencing it, making it and being musical,” she said.
“Research shows that participation in music groups helps children with early language development, builds motor skills as well as supporting social, emotional, cognitive and behavioural development.”
Today Boppin’ Babies is a national program running weekly music groups at seven locations across Brisbane and in selected childcare centres in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Geelong.
“I am very proud of what we have achieved as a family-owned business and for the opportunity this gives me to bring the best in music early learning and music therapy to so many families,” Vicky said.
“Our weekly music groups allows parents to actively participate in music groups with children of all ages, from babies to pre-prep and kindy groups.
“Our childcare centre program allows us to work in a unique and child-centred way with all children. All music is played live by visiting Boppin’ Babies group leaders, and while the program works from a highly developed session plan, all music groups are reactive to the children’s needs and responsive to their participation on the day.”
When she is not singing with families, Vicky is completing her research PhD as part of the University of Queensland study Being and becoming musical: towards a cultural ecological model of early musical development.
The study is led by Head of UQ’s School of Music Professor Margaret Barrett and Professor Graham Welch from University College London.
“I am proud that Boppin’ Babies offers the highest standards in music early learning experiences for families and is informed by the latest research findings,” Vicky said.
