Music Beat Kids (the home of Boppin’ Babies) offers weekly kids music classes for children of all ages, from babies and toddlers to pre-prep and kindy groups for young kids.
Our early childhood music classes are held once a week for 10 weeks during school terms. We offer our music classes at locations across Brisbane catering for groups of up to 12 families.
We provide a special time each week for you and your child to experience the magic of making music together.
We make music live and in the moment, we don’t ‘press play’ and crowd the environment with layers of sensory stimulation.
We sing. We dance. We play instruments. We nurture relationships and provide age appropriate multi-modal stimulation.
Our director, Dr Vicky Abad is a music early learning researcher and childhood development expert and her research informs our early childhood music programs.
Enhancing your child’s early development and nurturing their existing musical skills are the focus for our music therapists and early childhood specialists.
Our use of live music means your child can participate in their own way and at their own level and we can adapt in the moment to follow their lead. This way, the kids direct the learning that they experience.
This means your child can participate in their own way; be they shy or outgoing, whether they use words well or are not yet speaking, or if they are walking or not yet up and about.
Your child will participate in music making and music games that supports their development in so many ways:
All music is played live and is voice led. This is because research supports the use of live voice-led music when working with children under 5 years of age.
It also allows the children to be the focus of the session, as our staff interact musically in ways that are meaningful to the children in the moment they can follow their lead if the music is live.
It is much trickier to do this with recorded music. In our music classes, children don’t just dance or play or sing along to music, they actually make music in sync with another person. This is when the magic happens… Being in sync is hard when the music is recorded because little people can’t change their rhythms to match yet.
Our staff will use their guitars to accompany their voices too. This adds a beautiful rich element of music making to our classes. It is almost impossible to not join in and sing along, move to the music and feel the influence of the live music on your body in our classes.
Live music allows us to really focus on sensory experiences and the integration of these experiences for little people as we include listening to, making, moving to and feeling music as well as seeing it through the instruments and props we use.
Even when we are focusing on activities that are not directly about making music, such as working on strength and coordination or self-regulation, we do so with live music.
This also means we are constantly demonstrating to you lovely parents how you can use music to achieve these things with your own voices when you are at home.
You are your child’s most important teacher and we aim to support you in this very important role.
You are the expert when it comes to your child. We provide the structure and expertise to allow you to be the expert musical parent.
This is why all our music is played live and voice led, and we sing as a group to help build your repertoire and confidence.
We support you to participate in the sessions with your child through singing, moving to music, playing instruments and in improvised musical play. Sharing, and experiencing the joy of music together with your child.
You will come away with the knowledge and understanding of how music supports development and with practical hands-on ideas for using music at home to stimulate, calm and interact with your child.
Our music classes can be enjoyed in either age specific or mixed ages classes, so that you can choose what suits your child and family the best.
Research supports developmentally specific music classes that allow your child to participate in age appropriate activities in age appropriate ways.
Check out our Age Group Guide below and then decide what is best for your family.
Our music therapists and music teachers have extensive experience working with children who have special needs, medical conditions and families from all cultural backgrounds.
We use music therapeutically to support families to participate and feel empowered within a social and community based program.
Music therapy research shows that making music with peers improves social, emotional and educational outcomes for all children.
Our staff work in special schools and paediatric medical settings and bring these therapeutic skills to our program.
We also work with an early childhood education specialist to ensure our lesson plans and their implementation are developmentally and educationally linked to best practice.
An occupational therapist, paediatric physiotherapist and speech pathologist also ensure our content is clinically fine-tuned.
